When I Recommend Using Paypal As The Better Alternative Instead

What? A sales guy handing over a potential sale over to competitor? That's right, I'm doing it. Here's why.

Not everyone that wants to accept credit cards is a good prospect for a Visa or Mastcard assigned merchant account. Anyone who's selling online, for example, that does less than $1600 in monthly sales is better off using a third-party processor like Paypal.

Unlike a direct merchant account, Paypal is a third-party processor because they take the responsibility for all sales. This means that if you have an online store and accept a credit card through Paypal and have a chargeback issue, Paypal accepts the bulk of any penalties.

More importantly there is a cost benefit to using Paypal. With paypal there are no monthly fees, if you are selling through your website. You are not able to personally key in credit card sales. Instead, Paypal's gateway handles the entire sale. Not having to pay monthly fees allows sellers to reduce fees. However, in exchange for a no monthly fee, no contract merchant account, there going to be fees higher than with a regular merchant account. Here's a side by side comparison of what you can expect to pay and where you'll save money.

CREDIT CARD PROCESSING

Ok. Here's my sales pitch area.

If you've never accepted credit cards at your business, this is how much it will cost you.

$10/month (A monthly statement fee)

Visa & Mastercard Credit

1.68% + .25 cents per transaction

Visa & Mastercard Debit Cards

1.38% + .25 cents per transaction

We also have a monthly minimum required that your account must reach.

$25. This means that your total sales must be around $1,600 a month (1.68% X 1600= $26.88) Otherwise, if your sales are, let's say $1000, meaning only $16.80 has been generated in fees, then you'll get charged the difference ($8.20) that month to make up the difference you didn't reach in fees. Does this make sense.

Those are the basic fees. Please contact me to explain the other stuff that you should be aware of. Or click here to read more about credit card processing fees
