Credit Card Processing Companies
There
sure is an overwhelming number of credit card processing companies out
there in the world. How to choose a reliable, trustworthy and affordable
company that provides the merchant services is both simple and complex.
Here's why.
The
simplicity of finding a merchant service provider is due to the
Internet. A quick search turns up millions of results. The complexity
comes in identifying who's legitimate first, then narrowing those
results down to credibility.
Now,
I provided a quick short-list of credit card processing companies below
who are registered with the Visa Mastercard network. And unlike
some of the "experts" who claim to make it easy for you, by
giving you a list of items you should be asking a credit card processor,
I won't do that.
Instead,
I'm just going to tell you the truth about how it is. My job isn't to
make your life more difficult by giving you new things for you to learn.
You have enough responsibility as it is.
Who's
Tops & Who's Not List
#1
FirstData - The big daddy of them all. Most representatives on
the street are either direct resellers or sub-agents of this company.
Companies like Walmart trust this undisputed mega-company for it's
business solutions. Sure, I tell people that I really hate making claims
like, "It's the biggest, best." However, when it comes to
leading the world in credit card merchant services, every one else wants
to be like the big FD.
First
Data owns the following well known companies.
A.
Telecheck
B.
Cardservice International
C.
Linkpoint
D.
Used to own but sold off Wells Fargo.
#2
Bank of America - A strong competitor when it comes to pricing. However,
one of the biggest drawbacks to this company is how they run their
business. BA does not do housecalls. Now, at times, they will get on the
street and visit their preferred customers. Yet, you won't see BA reps
hitting the street as a whole. Plus, when you do need personal support
you must set an appointment days in advance.
Now,
I pride myself in knowing a bunch about trouble shooting virtually any
problem over the phone. However, typical BA reps are clueless about
fixing machines. That's why they have you schedule for their experts to
help. Long delays in service, but competitive rates. This is one reason
they are not #1.
3.
Chase Merchant Services - I really hate these guys. Ok, not really. They
are really competitive when it comes to pricing. Yet, they seem to have
an employee stability issue. Chase employees don't seem to stick around
very long it seems. My guess is because they try to be so cheap, they
can't afford to pay their street-level employees what their worth. As a
result customers tend to deal with less experienced customer service and
sales people.
4.
Paymentech - The only thing I know about this company is complaints
(from small business owners I've spoken to), which I won't go in to.
5.
Global Payments - Callers have told me that they are not as competitive
when it comes to pricing. Tend to have fees charged to clients that the
other companies don't.
6.
Why bother. There are plenty of other companies to list. However, Once
you start using some of these other companies I can always show you a
better solution for pricing and service. This is why even talking about
the other guys is not even worth it.
Who's
services do I promote and recommend? I'm a big believer in First
Data. Yes, I believe in helping the underdog. But when it comes
to trusting anyone with my client's money and solutions, I have
to go with someone with a history of security and stability.
Just
like it's company, Telecheck, the FirstData company has been around for
years. If you want to know how to get this service for your business give
me a call.
